Gardiner Bakehouse is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team. If you have proven experience as a baker, are passionate about artisanal breads, pastries or coffee, and are interested in sustainable food systems – we want to hear from you!

Seeking Bakers!

Position Overview:
As a Baker at Gardiner Bakehouse, you will be an integral part of our baking team, delivering high-quality, consistent breads and pastries to our customers.  Our semi-open kitchen allows for our baking team to work closely with the front-of-house team, kitchen stewards and baristas  to create a truly unique and inviting experience for our customers.


Key Responsibilities could include all or some of the following:

  • Sourdough and enriched bread production: mixing, folding, shaping, retarding and baking doughs according to a schedule,
  • observing production variables and fine tuning processes to obtain the desired result,
  • the production of laminated and quick pastries,
  • monitoring inventory and restocking ingredients throughout the day,
  • developing and testing new products,
  • opening and closing duties.


Qualifications:

  • At least one year of commercial baking experience and/or equivalent culinary school degree.
  • Knowledge about the sourdough fermentation process.
  • Knowledge of food industry standards related to safety, sanitation, and quality control.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Comfort working with commercial baking equipment, including various sized mixers, sheeters, proofers, retarders, convection ovens and deck ovens.
  • Familiarity with baker's math and baking measurement conversions.
  • Knowledge of excel a plus!

Seeking Baristas!

Position Overview:
As a Barista at Gardiner Bakehouse, you will be an integral part of our front-of-house team, delivering high-quality, consistent coffee and espresso-based drinks to our customers. In addition to crafting exceptional drinks, you may also perform cashier duties and other counter service responsibilities. Your role will involve creating a seamless and enjoyable experience for our customers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve classic espresso-based drinks with precision and consistency.
  • Operate the cash register, process transactions accurately, and manage cash handling procedures.
  • Educate customers on our offerings, including serving artisanal pastries and breads.
  • Provide excellent customer service, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations and a positive work environment.
  • Uphold Gardiner Bakehouse’s commitment to sustainable food systems and community building.


Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a barista at an independent (non-chain) coffee shop is required.
  • Experience in cashier duties and handling food service is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
